Dr. Melissa Kadzik, Dr. Wun-Ju Shieh, and Dr. Karlyn D Beer from the CDC, Atlanta, USA had visited the Mycetoma Research Centre, Khartoum, Sudan in the period 22nd-24th of august 2017.
The main purpose of this visit was to conduct initial mycetoma meetings with the Mycetoma Research Center team to see our facilities and projects and discuss future collaborations between MRC and CDC’s mycetoma working group. the visiting team also paid a visit to Wad Onsa Mycetoma Regional Centre in Sennar State which is one of the highly endemic areas in the Sudan. They also met the health officials at Sennar State and the minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Sudan .
The CDC visitors showed interest in partnering with the MRC and different organizations to address the burden of mycetoma through improved prevention and control measures, development of a point of care diagnostic test and improved understanding of the epidemiology of Mycetoma.
