Mycetoma at the World Health Organisation
2016 was the Mycetoma year at the World Health Organisation (WHO). The Sudan Federal Ministry of Health and at the request of the MRC request submitted a draft resolution to the 68th World Health Assembly secretariat to include mycetoma in the WHO/Neglected Tropical Diseases list. The submission was discussed at the WHO

The Mycetoma Research Centre (MRC), University of Khartoum in collaboration with the Institute of Endemic Diseases (IED), University of Khartoum and Sinner State Ministry of Health (SMOH) had conducted the third field study to East Sinner region which included Wad Onnsa and Wad EL Nemir villages.
The goal of the mission was to contribute dramatically to the reduction of the mycetoma national burden in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
WHO Executive Board recommends mycetoma resolution to World Health Assembly
28 January 2016 | Geneva −− The 138th Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) has today recommended a resolution on mycetoma to the 69th World Health Assembly, paving the way for its adoption in May 2016.
UK Doctors Visit Mycetoma Research Centre
We are here in Sudan as visiting Research Fellows at the Mycetoma Research Centre (MRC) in Soba.
Dr Scolding has visited Sudan before several years ago, working at Soba Hospital and visiting the MRC previously, whilst this is Dr Abbas’ first stay. We are both medical doctors from the UK, where we trained at the Royal Free and University College London Medical School and continued working in hospitals in and around London, UK.

The European Congress on Medical Microbiology and infectious diseases, the 26th Annual conference, Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 9-12 April 2016.
The conference had record-breaking attendance numbers! 11,640 participants from 123 countries attended. There were over 200 sessions, including 11 keynote lectures, over 100 symposia and oral sessions, 20 educational workshops and 20 meet-the-expert sessions as well as 26 industry-organized symposia and 157 exhibitors, and over 3,000 abstracts presented.
