Report on: The First International Training Workshop on Mycetoma, Khartoum, Sudan, 10–14 February 2019

The First International Training Workshop on Mycetoma was organised in Khartoum, Sudan in the period 10–14th February 2019. It was organised by the Mycetoma Research Centre, (MRC), University of Khartoum, WHO Collaborating Centre on Mycetoma and the World Health Organization (WHO).
It aimed to facilitate the implementation of the Resolution WHA69.21 through the strengthening of country-level capacities on diagnosis and treatment of mycetoma. Furthermore, to provide medical and health workers with a logical and systematic approach to the diagnosis and management of mycetoma and its public-health aspects.

Training Workshop on Good Clinical Laboratory Practice, Nairobi, Kenya, 5-7th March, 2019

As part of the continuous professional development activities of the Mycetoma Research Center, University of Khartoum staff, Dr Nagwa Joda and Miss Omina Babkhir had attended a training workshop on Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) in Kenya.

Training course in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Bioinformatics, Johannesburg, South Africa, 27 January- 1 February 2019

As part of her PhD training, Miss Rayan Ali, a PhD student at Brighton and Sussex Medical School who is based at the Mycetoma Research Centre (MRC), had attended a training course in the analysis of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Operational Management & Ethical Implications Workshop 22- 23, November 2017

In collaboration with Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HsH), Germany, the Mycetoma Research Center (MRC) and the National Center for Research (NCR), Khartoum, Sudan had conducted an Operational Management & Ethical Implications training workshop. It was organised at Soba Education, Training and Examinations Center in the period 22nd and 23rd of November 2017. 37 participants from different universities and research institutes had attended the workshop.

The Mycetoma Research Gaps Seminar

The Mycetoma Research Centre, University of Khartoum, WHO Collaborating Centre on Mycetoma had conducted a seminar on the Mycetoma Research Gaps on Thursday, 13th July 2017 at The Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research The Grand Hall.

A training course at the Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam, Netherlands

 As part of the continuous professional development activities of the Mycetoma Research Center, University of Khartoum staff, I had the chance to attend the Summer Program of Epidemiology at Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam, Netherlands. It was an excellent introduction to the various Epidemiology concepts and its practical application in scientific research. It was conducted by highly professional experts from different parts of the world, and it was designed in a way that combined both to the theoretical and practical aspects of Epidemiology. The duration of the program was three weeks. Every week a new topic was discussed. The programme had enlightened and broadened my Epidemiology knowledge

Artists visit to the Mycetoma Research Centre

A large number of artists and media professionals initiated a group called “We are with you” to fight chronic diseases through art. Their first activities were on 7th of August 2017 in the patients’ waiting hall of the Mycetoma Research Centre (MRC) at in Soba town. They recited poems and sang songs with patients and their co-patients, between cheers and tears from the audience, and the singers promised to support patients and the centre to eradicate Mycetoma.
