THE ESTABLISHMENT OF TELEMEDICINE UNIT
- Published: 10 January 2017
Telemedicine is the use of telecommunication and information technology to provide clinical health care from a distance. It eliminates distance barriers, financial constrains and can improve access to medical services that would often not be consistently available in distant rural communities.
Telemedicine facility was established at the MRC on September 13th 2016 by generous support of the Ministry of Higher Education, it is linking the centre with the Ministry and the Wad Onsa Regional Mycetoma centre at Sinner State with a cost reaching 650 000 SDG.
Since treatment of mycetoma is not well decentralized and the patients’ access to it is difficult, telemedicine facility plays an important role in diagnosing and treating these patients.
